About
jichaag is the artist signature of Alain Jean-Paul Grouette.
A young creative mind inhabiting an old body.

As a self-taught musician, author, composer, arranger, producer, mixer, and sound engineer, my musical career began at the age of seven with drums, progressing over the years through numerous bands, instruments, projects, and recordings.A Hybrid Psytrance Music ProjectToday, my creative focus is a hybrid psytrance project. The music I create is designed to be uplifting, joyful, and healing, encouraging listeners to dance and feel good. My sound is an energetic fusion of psytrance drum and bass lines, set at 140BPM beats per minute. It incorporates a variety of styles and influences, featuring percussions from multiple cultures, funky basslines, percussive keyboard chops, jazzy brass sections, orchestral strings, immersive soundscape pads, choral elements, experimental textures, and intricate melodic instrumental passages. This brand new project started to be released in February 2026.Energy Psychodynamics and Musical ApproachThe jichaag project is deeply influenced by my extensive experience and studies as an energy psychodynamics therapist, facilitator, teacher, and consultant. Each piece of music incorporates a dedicated energy psychodynamic track, designed to support and enhance your listening experience. Additionally, some tracks utilise musical scales based on Schumann’s Earth resonance frequency of 7.83Hz, complementing the music with natural, grounding vibrations.Independent Artist and LabelAs an independent artist, the following independent enterprises are my own ventures, giving me full creative and professional autonomy.
RECORD LABELAll jichaag music is released under Disques Marelle Records label.

jichaag - The Name
jichaag means “my soul” in the Ojibwa/Chippewa native language. Every time you say “jichaag”, you are invoking your soul.An Unexpected Gift
The story of how I chose jichaag to become my artist name began as an unexpected gift in Saint-Zotique, Québec, Canada, where we lived for six years. My dearly beloved life partner is an avid reader and frequently visited the local library, where we borrowed books and magazines.
During one of our regular visits, we met a wonderful woman who volunteered with the local genealogy club, the “Centre d’histoire et de généalogie de St-Zotique.” She asked for our family names and was intrigued by the rarity of mine, “Grouette.” When she offered to research my genealogy, I gladly accepted.Tracing the Grouette Lineage
After many months of research—on her part and mine—we discovered the following family history:
• My seventh-generation grandmother, Catherine Messinabikwe, was a full-blooded Ojibwa/Chippewa woman from Michigan, USA. She had children with James (Jacques) Gruet, a French fur trader from London, England.
• One of their children, Antoine Hyacinthe, was born in 1798 and baptized as Grouet in Oka, Québec, Canada.
• The family later moved to Red River, Manitoba, Canada. In the 1818 Canadian census archives, the family name was recorded as “Grouette.”
• The Métis Grouette lineage continued through the union of Antoine Hyacinthe Grouette and Madeleine Nolin, who was also Métis.
• My fourth-generation grandmother, Louise Clyne, married Jean-Baptiste Grouette Jr. She was a fourth-generation Ojibwa Métis, and her great-grandmother was Little Weasel.Reconnecting with My Heritage
I had never been closely connected with the Grouette side of my family. Beyond rumours of an Indigenous background, I knew little about the Métis aspect of my heritage. Nevertheless, I have always felt a deep connection to nature and to Indigenous peoples.
I felt this connection strongly in 2008, when I was hired as a debriefer for a Residential School Syndrome Healing Week in Inuvik, Northwest Territories, Canada.
More recently, discovering this new information about my Indigenous heritage led me to explore the Ojibwa language. That is how I found the word “jichaag”. It resonated with me so profoundly that I chose it as my artist name, in honour of my newly discovered heritage. The pronunciation can be understood in two parts: “ji” is pronounced like “jit,” with the sound of “it” preceded by a “j”; “chaag” uses the long “aa” sound, similar to the “a” in “father.”Continuing to Learn
I do not claim to have any knowledge of Ojibwe culture; I am still very much a beginner. What I do carry is a sincere curiosity and a strong desire to keep learning about this part of my heritage, and to integrate that discovery into my creative journey.
